Community Programs Overview

The Writers Guild Foundation recognizes that our mission to engage and educate emerging writers cannot be fulfilled without a deep commitment to equity and accessibility. Through our community programs, we aim to create pathways for students and underserved communities to meaningfully connect with WGAW membership and make use of our educational resources.

See a list of our current initiatives below.

Writers’ Access Support Staff Training Program

Provides tools and education to ensure writers from underrepresented groups emerge with a working knowledge of the writers' assistant and script coordinator jobs, ultimately resulting in meaningful employment opportunities.

Veterans Writing Project

Identifies emerging writers from United States military backgrounds and provides them with the tools and mentorship to nurture their passion for screenwriting and successfully navigate the entertainment industry.

Veterans Fellowship

Provides educational resources, professional guidance, and career-building opportunities for Veterans Writing Project alumni who are on the threshold of breaking into the industry.

Visiting Writers Program

Connects WGAW members with film and screenwriting students from colleges and universities locally and around the world.

Volunteer and Mentorship Program

Pairs WGAW members with like-minded organizations who work with young people from underserved communities on literacy, writing and filmmaking.
