Summer Fridays: Dazed and Confused

This week's Summer Fridays pick comes from our Archivist, Hilary Swett. Her choice for favorite summer movie is DAZED AND CONFUSED, the 1993 comedy about the last day of high school in a small Texas town. Set in 1976 and helmed by Richard Linklater, the movie is also known for introducing us to a young University of Texas at Austin film student named Matthew McConaughey. Alright, alright, alright. Why is DAZED AND CONFUSED Hilary's fave?

"I don't typically like teenage movies but this one is special," she writes. "Richard Linklater’s film captures a moment in time that I didn't live through but wish I had.  I feel for his characters, with all of their conflicting self-possession and insecurities, and want to know how they turned out. To me, this beautiful film is everything that summer is for teenagers and should be for us grown ups --meandering, unexpected, and full of possibilities."

Watch the movie on Netflix and you can also read the movie's script in our Library.
