The Insider: Finding the Right Script with Christopher Lockhart

Christopher Lockhart has been a judge for our annual spring WGFestival pitch competition, where he gives us a glimpse into why a story or a pitch works, or why it doesn’t.

Lockhart is the Story Editor at WME, where he helps to find projects for celebrated talent such as Denzel Washington. On this special event, he will discuss in depth what makes a script the “right” script that everyone in town wants to read, star in, and produce.

Lockhart shares what he has seen in his almost 30 years in the industry, what he looks for in projects, and what story knowledge he has gained by reading over 50,000 screenplays.

Lockhart began his career at ICM working alongside legendary talent agent Ed Limato as his script consultant, advising him on projects for his star-studded clientele such as Mel Gibson, Michelle Pfeiffer, Richard Gere, Robert Downey, Jr., and Liam Neeson. His story expertise has been put to use on countless movies. He has lectured around the world on the business, pitching, and writing of screenplays and has published multiple articles on these subjects. His screenwriting workshop, “The Inside Pitch,” was filmed for Los Angeles television and earned him an Emmy award nomination. As a filmmaker, he co-produced the cult horror film “The Collector” and its sequel “The Collection.” He also wrote and produced the documentary “Most Valuable Players,” which won worldwide accolades. He is a graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and has an MFA in dramatic writing.

Doors open at 7:00pm. Event starts at 7:30pm.
