What happens when cultures collide? How have American TV and screenwriters portrayed mixed race characters?

On this special evening, we team up with Stephens College to explore how multi-cultural characters and families are depicted in film and television. 

Panelists:

Aida Mashaka Croal – Writer/producer on Marvel’s Luke Cage, co-producer on TURN: Washington’s Spies

Peter Paige – Co-creator of The Fosters

Yamara Taylor – Yamara is a Los Angeles based comedy writer/performer who currently writes on ABC’s Emmy nominated Blackish. She has previously written for FOX’s late night sketch show, Party Over Here, NICKELODEON’s How to Rock and NICK AT NITE’s Instant Mom.  She also wrote for ADULT SWIM’s, The Boondocks, while simultaneously contributing to The Boondocks comic strip.  She’s appeared on sketches for Awesomeness TV,  Party Over Here and IFC’s Comedy Bang Bang. 

Yamara earned a Bachelor’s degree from UCLA’s School of Theater, Film and Television.  She’s studied and performed improv and sketch comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in Los Angeles.  Currently, she resides on UCBTLA’s Diversity Program Committee helping to increase the theater’s diversity in class and on stage. Yamara is an avid shopper of Nordstrom.
