Laughing Matters: Writing Socially Conscious Comedies with UNITED STATES OF AL

For this session, we hear from the writers and producers of United States of Al, the new CBS comedy about a friendship between a military veteran adjusting to life after serving in Afghanistan and his Afghan interpreter who has newly arrived in the United States. Learn their process for crafting the multi-cam comedy, from how their personal experiences inform the show's stories to how they use comedy to explore subjects such as immigration, cultural differences, and trauma.
