More Than A Heroine: Writing Better Female Characters with The Queen's Path

Seeking more robust and expanded female-focused storytelling in your creative work? In this interactive and instructive workshop, author Stacey Simmons, PhD helps participants bypass the outdated patriarchal storytelling model and leads them through this newly-discovered, women-driven model, based on her forthcoming book, The Queen’s Path: A Revolutionary Guide to Women’s Empowerment and Sovereignty from Hay House/Penguin Random House.

Dr. Simmons will cover:

  • Why the Hero’s or Heroine's Journey often fails as a model for female-driven narratives, from movies and plays to biographies and memoirs, and how this new paradigm advances beyond these previously accepted models

  • The archetypal image(s) of the Divided Woman, and her counterpart, the Queen

  • The story map for the Queen’s Path, and why a woman cannot take a Hero’s Journey UNTIL she has sovereignty

  • The most effective ways to use this new model in all areas that matter for writers

This workshop makes use of contemporary, exemplary projects, including but not limited to: The Woman King, Promising Young Woman, and The Handmaid’s Tale.

RSVP for free or with a suggested donation. All donations go towards producing future panels and events. After signing up, you’ll receive information on how to access the Zoom session.

About the Facilitator

DR. STACEY SIMMONS is a writer and psychotherapist who grew up in New Orleans, but currently lives out in the boonies of Los Angeles where she keeps her horses. She is a neurotic polymath who has a PhD in social psychology, is fluent in French, and has a passion for women’s issues and neuroscience.

Stacey left a career in animation and visual effects to become a psychotherapist. In her graduate research, Stacey discovered an analog to the Hero’s Journey for woman-driven story - and it is NOT a Heroine’s journey!

She’s been speaking at writers’ groups and conferences since her discovery. Her book THE QUEEN’S PATH: A REVOLUTIONARY GUIDE TO WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT AND SOVEREIGNTY will be released November 5, 2024.
