The Writers Guild Foundation, in partnership with Storyline Partners, hosts this virtual panel analyzing narratives portraying eco activists, scientists, and journalists and exploring how dissent and protest is criminalized. Hear how writers approach the intersectionality of climate action and first amendment protections in their stories, how these narratives impact our culture, and advice for engaging with eco activism in your own stories.

About The Panelists
Daniel Goldhaber is a filmmaker based in Brooklyn, NY. He has directed CAM, How to Blow Up a Pipeline, and the forthcoming Faces of Death.
Allegra Harpootlian, (she/her) is a senior communications strategist at the American Civil Liberties Union, where she focuses on national security, free speech, and privacy/tech. She previously worked at ReThink Media, a non-profit focused on shifting media narratives around peace, security, and post-9/11 policies, as well as who is featured in those conversations. She is also a Political Partner of the Truman National Security Project and a member of the National Press Club.
Jon Raymond is the author of the books The Half-Life, Livability, Rain Dragon, Freebird, Denial, and the forthcoming God and Sex. He also published a collection of art writing called The Community: Writings About Art In and Around Portland, 1997 - 2016. He’s collaborated on six screenplays with the director Kelly Reichardt, including Old Joy, Wendy and Lucy, Meek's Cutoff, Night Moves, First Cow, and Showing Up, numerous of which were based on his fiction, and on the HBO miniseries Mildred Pierce with Todd Haynes. He lives in Portland, Oregon.

Sanaz Alesafar is the Executive Director for Storyline Partners, a nonprofit collective of cultural consultants that advise and promote accurate and authentic entertainment narratives in film, television, podcasts, and gaming. Her expertise is advising on the connections between the trends in culture, policy, and people translatable to authentic storytelling. Sanaz has diverse experience across corporate media organizations and nonprofit and philanthropic sectors in the U.S., France, and the Middle East. Before its closure, Sanaz consulted for over six years with the Film Narrative team at Participant. Sanaz graduated from the University of California at Berkeley and received her MPA from L'Institut d'études politiques de Paris (Sciences Po, Paris).
